AEA R84 DJV
April 2004—AEA's new R84 DJV is based on the company's award-winning R84 “big ribbon” microphone. Optimized for voice work, the DJ Version delivers a big intimate sound that is articulate, smooth, bright and natural. Well-protected for close-up use, it is boom-compatible. AEA R44 and R84 microphones use ribbon material manufactured for RCA.

AEA R88
November 2003—Thinking stereo? At AES NYC, AEA's R88 puts a matched pair of large figure-8 ribbon capsules (angled at 90 degrees) in a single housing for Blumlein or M-S stereo recording. Price: $1,895.

AEA R88 RIBBON STEREO MICROPHONE
October 2003—Matched, 90-degree angled pair of large ribbon geometry figure-8 mics for Blumlein or MS stereo. 20-20k Hz response. Built-in shock-mount and captive 25-foot cable to two A3M connectors. Supplied with a locking angle adapter for bottom, top or side-stand mounting. Fly overhead for large venue installations. Three pounds, plus the cable weight. 2.5 inches diameter and 14 inches tall. Black stealth finish. Price: $1,895.

AEA R84
November 2002—Audio Engineering Associates is known for its re-creations of classic RCA ribbon mics. Now, AEA debuts its own design, the R84, which features a large, yet ultrathin (0.00007-inch) ribbon element for fast transients and up to 165dB SPL handling. Retail is $999, with shock-mount, cable and case. To view the review, click here.

AEA R78
August 2002—AEA's new R78 ribbon microphone continues in the tradition of the RCA 44, whose sensual sound has long been the standard for voice work. The R78 is a dedicated figure-8 ribbon microphone optimized for close vocal work, voice-overs, character voice and on-air work, and has the comfortable, intimate clarity and extended bottom of the 44 in a smaller physical package with an extended top end. Options include a switchable highpass filter and Rycote “furry” wind filter. Available in “TV” finish (umber) or optional “Radio” finish (black and bright chrome). Price: $2,000.

AEA/COLES 4038 STEREO TEMPLATE AND BAR
October 2000—Coincident and near-coincident stand mounting for a pair of Coles 4038s. Features include Blumlein (coincident) head-to-head mounting, Dooley/Streicher (17-cm spacing) 90-degree side-by-side mounting, other near-coincident spacings and angles possible, and uses AEA standard 4038 SA microphone stand adapters.

AEA R-440 PROP MIC
January 2002—Audio Engineering Associates' R-440 Stage Prop Mic ($495) is a full-size RCA 44-style mic shell with internal shock-mount for inserting a compact side-address mic—it seems live prop use with your own mic can be practical.
